Welcome to Brad Turner CBT Psychotherapy.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

A type of talking therapy that has a large evidence-base proving its effectiveness treating a wide range of psychological problems. The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends CBT as the first line treatment for anxiety and depression disorders.

How can I help you?

For clients:

I work with individuals and couples experiencing psychological distress, in person or via video call. I will use CBT principles and disorder specific protocols to help you see the connection between your thinking and how you feel, and how this affects what you do (and vice versa). During your treatment we will identify ‘vicious cycles’ that are operating to maintain the problem, then formulate your difficulties, explore their origins, identify goals, and develop an individualised treatment plan to realise these. We will work collaboratively to better understand the patterns of thinking and behaving that are inadvertently leading to distress, ultimately modifying these to reduce unwanted symptoms. The eventual goal of CBT is to equip you with the knowledge and skillset necessary to self-regulate and manage your mental health, without the need for therapy, as you become your own therapist.

Mental health disorders I can help with include:

  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem
  • Generalised anxiety
  • Social anxiety
  • Post-traumatic stress (PTSD)
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Health / illness anxiety
  • Specific phobias
  • Panic & agoraphobia
  • Relationship distress
  • Grief, loss, and adjustment
  • Insomnia
  • Body dysmorphia

For clinicians:

Clinical supervision is available for mental health practitioners, such as BABCP accredited CBT therapists. I have over 10 years clinical and supervisory experience, in both the NHS and private practice. I have spent the last 5 years as a senior practitioner in an NHS talking therapies services, so I am well versed in supervising trainees and qualified clinicians alike.

“I found Brad to be an excellent therapist. His laid back, calm manner made me feel right at home immediately and happy to discuss my issues. The CBT techniques helped me realise how stuck I’d become and how my thinking needed to change. It is not easy and there is a way to go still, but I use these techniques daily to give me a break from my anxieties. I know I can call Brad anytime if I found myself slipping again.”

“I spent a few months in therapy with Brad and found him to be very easy to talk to and understanding in what I was going through with my personal issues. I found him very professional and will recommend him to anybody.”

“Brad has been supervising me in my private practice as a CBT therapist for the past 3 years. In that time, I have found him to be invaluable to my professional development. His down to earth approach to supervision has allowed me to grow extensively in my knowledge and confidence, with a range of clinical presentations. Brad is personable, knowledgeable, diligent, encouraging, and supportive.”

“Supervision with Brad has largely shaped who I am as a clinician today. His patience, knowledge, and caring nature are what stand out to me, with Brad’s helpful guidance often in the back of my mind whilst working with clients. As a supervisee, you’re put at ease instantly, no question is too silly, and you always feel like you are leaving the hour with clear direction for your cases. Brad helps you stay grounded, whilst developing your own clinical decision making in a natural, collaborative way. I have a lot to thank Brad for and anyone who gets a chance to be supervised by him is very lucky.”
